Emotional Freedom Technique

shutterstock_140869945Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is about returning the mind, body and feelings to a state of balance and harmony so we are not limited by negative emotions. Even though we are ‘designed’ to recover from unpleasant experiences or thought patterns we can be affected by recurring emotions from the past and also by ongoing or future events such as stress, depression or various anxieties.

Our emotions can become stuck rather than dispersing and even if we try to ignore them they still affect our lives. EFT is a very effective yet gentle method of directly balancing the body’s energy system for the feelings that you want to change.

Using EFT involves ‘tuning in’ to the issue and then tapping on specific acupressure points. You do not have to relive past events you just have to be aware that the negative feeling is there. Having ‘tuned in’ to it you will be instructed as to which acupressure points to tap on and what words to say whilst doing so, as saying a few key words during this process helps to disperse the emotion. Having done this you are then asked to think about the situation again and see how you feel. Typically you will notice a significant reduction in the intensity of the feeling. If it has not completely gone we repeat the process, bringing the intensity of feeling down each time until full balance is restored.

Following EFT the dispersed feelings rarely return. If they do it implies that more work is needed, that other events or emotions may actually be behind the initial issue. Once cleared you will still retain the memory of the situation but it will no longer have the emotional charge that it had before.
